Fire Protection Engineer & Flex Engineer


Responsible for performing engineering and technical tasks, under general supervision, in support of nuclear plant operations.


  • Perform engineering and technical tasks as assigned by supervision applying general engineering principles.

  • Assure all engineering products prepared are in accordance with applicable safety analyses, industry codes, engineering specifications and all regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of effective processes and techniques at appropriate levels of detail and in compliance with established policies and procedures.

  • Recommend format and methodology improvements to standard processes and procedures.

*Position level will be determined by candidates background.



  • B. S. in Engineering or equivalent technical degree

  • Minimum 2 years engineering experience for E2

  • Minimum 5-6 years engineering experience for E3


  • Engineer in training certification

Site Fire Protection Program Engineer

The Site Fire Protection Program Engineer is the site "program owner" of the fire protection program, in accordance with ER-AA-1100. Site Fire Protection Program Engineer is responsible for the overall effective implementation and adequacy of the Fire Protection Program. Duties include:

  1. Act as the station authority for all site - specific fire protection program issues (i.e., administrative control and design), and as technical consultant to other departments on design and programmatic issues.

  2. Maintain the Fire Protection Report and support documents.

  3. Maintain/Perform engineering evaluations, calculations, and design change reviews required by the program.

  4. Ensure the technical content of the site - specific post fire safe shutdown analysis and procedures, and the fire protection Technical Requirements Manual (TRM), or equivalent document, is adequate.

  5. Interface with Corporate Fire Protection Program Engineer on design and program issues.

  6. Lead site Fire Protection Focused Area Self - Assessments (PI - AA - 126 - 1001).

  7. Maintain Program Health Reports (ER - AA - 1100) and Program Health Performance Indicators (ER - AA - 610 - 1002) and respond to adverse trends or conditions.

  8. Interface with NEIL inspectors during insurance inspections.

Site FLEX Programs Engineer

  1. Act as the station authority for site - specific FLEX and SFPI program issues related to administrative control and design and provide engineering support to other departments on design and programmatic issues.

  2. Maintain the site FLEX and SFPI Program Document and Final Integrated Plan.

  3. Overall responsibility to screen changes to FLEX strategies using Attachment 2 and to ensure completed Attachment 2s are retained in the site’s Fukushima EDMS cabinet.

  4. Overall responsibility to screen configuration change packages for FLEX impacts using Attachment 2.

  5. SAFER responsibilities:

  • Review of SAFER Response Plans

  • Review MOUs associated with SAFER Response Plans

  • Perform / oversee annual review and FAA approval of site Congested Area Plan

  • Coordinate changes with Corporate SAFER Technical POC

  1. Ensure INPO Emergency Response Group is notified of permanent changes to the INPO FLEX Phase 2 equipment inventory list.
