Primary Purpose of Position:
The State and Local Senior Transaction Tax Analyst (SALT Senior) applies state and local transaction tax knowledge and experience to support and achieve an efficient and accurate transaction tax compliance process, assist tax and business partners with transaction tax inquiries and support business initiatives. The SALT Senior reviews significant transaction tax returns, processes payments, reviews and initiates accounting entries and reconciliations, develops, monitors and improves compliance processes and information flow, assists with integrating new business transactions, and supports other teams concerning transaction tax compliance information needs. This individual will leverage strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop relationships with business partners in support of the transaction tax compliance process, business processes and initiatives.
Primary Duties and Accountabilities:
Reviews significant transaction tax returns for accuracy, processes tax payments, reviews and initiates journal entries, and reviews and performs reconciliations
Serves as liaison to third-party compliance service provider and supports compliance efforts
Gathers and communicates relevant information to the service provider or takes direct action concerning various compliance-related matters, including, for example, new business registrations, tax account closures, tax authority notice resolution
Assists with streamlining or transforming transaction tax compliance processes through implementation and support of process or technology improvements
Provides support for internal business partners by participating and effectively communicating tax compliance impact of business projects, developments and process changes and serving as a resource for transaction tax-related inquiries
Develops and communicates tax compliance requirements for tax and business projects and assists with related integration efforts
Gathers and provides information to support internal data requests for transaction tax audits
Performs special projects as assigned by the State and Local Transaction Tax Manager
Undergraduate degree in Accounting or other financial discipline
At least four years of experience in sales, use and other transaction taxes, with some transaction tax compliance experience
Strong understanding of state and local transaction tax laws and general accounting principles
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently and effectively in a high-volume environment
Transaction tax compliance experience with a multistate organization involving a large volume of filings for multiple legal entities
Familiarity with automated sales and use tax engines and compliance systems (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, Suretax)
Tax research and audit experience

Reports directly to the Manager, State and Local Tax
Ability to work independently (requiring minimal detailed instruction and supervision)
Ability to interact and build relationships within the Tax organization and outside Tax (e.g., Treasury, Accounting, Legal, FP&A, business units)
Detailed knowledge of state and local transaction tax compliance processes and related taxing authority rules
Strong research, writing and verbal communication skills
